At Hope for Cancer Kids (HCK), we are committed to protecting the privacy and security of our donors, volunteers, beneficiaries, and website visitors. As a non-profit organization dedicated to providing hope, care, and support to families affected by childhood cancer across Kenya, we understand the sensitive nature of the information entrusted to us.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the steps we take to ensure it is kept secure.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information to help us run our organization, process donations, provide support, and improve our services. This information generally falls into two categories:
A. Personal Information You Provide to Us

- Shopping Cart Information: Details necessary to process and fulfill orders from our online shop, such as items purchased and shipping preferences.
- Application Information: Details provided in volunteer or support applications (handled with the utmost discretion and stored securely).
B. Data Collected Through Website Interaction

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To Process Transactions: To manage and process your donations and to fulfill orders placed through our shopping cart.
- To Communicate with You: To send receipts, newsletters, updates on our programs, and to respond to your inquiries.

3. Cookies and Tracking
Our website uses cookies to enhance your browsing experience and remember your preferences.
- Comment Cookies: If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
- Login/Account Cookies: If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. 4. Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles and pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.) from other websites. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website directly.
These external websites may:
- Collect data about you.

Hope for Cancer Kids (HCK) does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
We only share your information in limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: We use trusted third-party services for functions like payment processing, email delivery, and website hosting.
- Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law.
- Password Reset: If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
- Data Location: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

- Other Data: Other personal data related to donations and transactions is retained for as long as necessary to fulfill our charitable mission, comply with legal requirements (e.g., tax records), and resolve disputes.
6. Payment Security (Donations and Shopping Cart)
Your financial security is extremely important to us.
- When you make a donation or purchase an item via our shopping cart, your transaction is processed through a secure, third-party payment gateway.
