Pillar 1: Access to Treatment & Care

Removing the Barriers to Survival

A cancer diagnosis can create significant financial and practical barriers to treatment. For families who travel long distances for care, the cost of accommodation, transport and expenses not covered by health insurance can make it difficult to keep up with treatment.

Health Insurance Support

We help eligible families access healthcare by supporting their Social Health Authority (SHA) insurance contributions, helping remove financial barriers to essential treatment and hospital care in the public healthcare space.

1 Hope House

For families who travel from far outside Nairobi, we provide safe, cost-free accommodation at 1 Hope House while their child receives treatment. This gives families a place to stay close to the hospital without the additional burden of hotel or rental costs

Transport to and from Hospital

We provide transport support between 1 Hope House and the hospital, helping children attend chemotherapy, consultations, procedures and other essential appointments without transport costs becoming a reason to miss treatment.

Support with Out-of-Pocket Costs

Even with SHA coverage, families can face costs that are not fully covered by insurance. Where possible, we help families meet essential out-of-pocket medical and treatment-related expenses, so that these additional costs do not become a barrier to their child's care.
