Stories of hope

Rose Nasimiyu

The story of a girl who at 9 years old was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer originating from white blood cells.

In an interview with The Standard, Nasimiyu said it took five months before the doctors could diagnose her condition. But when what was ailing her was finally discovered, the girl decided to conquer the disease. Early diagnosis of cancer indeed leads to cure.

She released a song called I Believe to help her mother raise money for her treatment. She was also interviewed by Jeff Koinange where she told her story of her will to live.

When Jeff Koinange asks her in Capital Talk if she ever cries because of her situation, she is almost taken aback by the question. ‘I can’t,’ she replies. ‘I am a big girl now, and there are those who are way younger than me that needs a person to talk to. There are those younger, say one-year-olds, they have brain tumors, AIDs and other conditons…

She wrote: “Cancer is gone! Medication has stopped. I am so happy. I don’t know what to say, but to thank the Lord for what he has done for me.”  After completing her treatment her cancer is now gone and she hopes to be a model and Pediatric Oncologist when she grows up.
